Drawing, painting and creating have always been a feature and source of joy in Penny’s life from a very early age, with art being a favourite subject at school.
This love of creating lead to studying Visual Art at Bendigo Tafe, during which time, printmaking was the major subject.
While completing her diploma, Penny received a cultural grant from the Bendigo City Council to complete a community art project with a local aged care centre. The research project featured creative collages – artfully illustrated lives of six of the residents. Interviewing the residents, creating the representative collages and exhibiting the art works was a very rewarding experience for all involved.
Penny’s current body of work continues this love of the collage technique and she uses washi paper in her mixed media compositions, especially of fashion poses, with a particular focus on the ball gown or dress.
With the illustrative collages, Penny delights in her exploration of colour, texture, pattern, shape and form.
