Macedon Ranges artist Gillian Gorrie has indulged in creativity in one form or another since childhood. Gillian has a Diploma of Visual arts majoring in ceramics and initially taught in secondary schools in and around Victoria.
After travelling for two years working in potteries in Wales, Scotland and South Africa, Gillian returned to Australia and worked with Peter Petrucelli in Upper Beaconsfield before starting up her own pottery business selling her works interstate.
Gillian’s interest in brushwork and line as a form of decoration for her pots developed into her love of watercolour and the excitement of mixing the medium and applying it with water.
“Even though it’s good to go with the flow, there will always be an element of fine detail in my works. Sometimes I don’t know where the process is going to take me, and that’s the exciting bit.”
Gillian now runs two watercolour art classes from home and one in Sunbury.
