Born and raised in Kyneton, Donna now resides in Brown Hill (Ballarat). Her photography journey began with 35mm film cameras and it felt natural to always have a camera in hand, documenting various moments and events.
Horses formed an integral part of Donna’s childhood, and Elyne Mitchell’s Silver Brumby Books remain a treasured collection. The Man from Snowy River burst onto our screens in 1982, and the romance of our wild horses became embedded in her life – “They say you are either a beach or a mountain person! and my passion was definitely the High Country and the Alps; spending time surrounded by Nature’s wild beauty, backcountry hiking and snow-shoe adventuring in my adult life”.
Initially nervous about driving remote roads in the mountain ranges, Donna overcame any fear, venturing further afield. After many solo trips to the Snowy Mountains, a network of new friends and the lure of the wildlife on the plains, it seemed Donna’s photography was taking its intuitive direction.
There is a rush of adrenalin in the moment a wild dingo appears, or the emergence of a mob of wild horses in the landscape. Donna’s images try to capture that same feeling, allowing the viewer to share the extraordinary experience.
