Having worked in Graphic Design for 25 years Deidre came to clay like many do, joining in a local pottery evening class in 2014. She soon became hooked on the endless possibilities of making tangible things rather than sitting in front of a computer to produce work.
Through lots of trial and error she began to use some of the techniques developed in her design career and applied them to clay: techniques like screen printing, lino cuts, collage, surface pattern and photography.
Working from a shed in the garden of her property in Mt Macedon, she is inspired by nature as well as a lifelong interest in myths, folklore, children’s book illustration, visual storytelling. These ideas apply very well to vessels, plates and small sculptures.
